L’Apparita is the first wine 100% Merlot produced in Tuscany. It is a cult wine since its first release 1985. The small parcels forming our single vineyard L’Apparita extend on an area of 3.84 hectares and they are located on top of Bellavista Vineyard. Vines were firstly planted in 1975 with Canaiolo and Malvasia Bianca. They have been replanted between 1982 and 1985 with Merlot, using the clone nr 342. The training system at Open Lyre and the soil particularly rich with clay make this small Cru a jewel of the international wine production.
CASTELLO DI AMA CHIANTI GRAN SELEZIONE
San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione of Castello di Ama rubbing the denomination Chianti Classico DOCG Gran Selezione, ie the non plus ultra in terms of quality and origin in the Chianti Classico, is the flagship product of this winery. The grapes are produced entirely in the San Lorenzo area, within the company. It is precisely the origin of the grapes that gives the name to this Chianti. They are the oldest vines of the company which, having at least ten years of age, with a perfect phenolic maturity guarantee exceptional organoleptic characteristics. With a careful assembly of Sangiovese, the prince of Chianti and Malvasia Nera and Merlot grapes elegant and intense aromas of ripe red fruit are obtained. The full and soft taste is obtained with a refinement in wood, 20% in barriques of first passage and the rest in used barriques. The San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG of Castello di Ama still maintains a good freshness that makes it a refined and elegant wine, suitable not only for the traditional Tuscan gastronomic dishes.
CATENA ZAPATA ALTA MALBEC
Catena Alta Malbec shows a saturated dark violet colour. The nose offers freshly ground, ripe berry fruits with layers of wild flowers, mocha and tobacco. The mouthfeel is full with excellent weight and concentration with a soft and silky texture. The mid palate offers rich cassis and black currant fruit flavours interwoven with hints of chocolate, vanilla and black pepper. It finishes with a wonderful minerality, finely grained tannins and lively acidity.
Deep violet in colour with indigo highlights. On the nose there are aromas of ripe red and black berry fruits with notes of violets and lavender and hints of leather and a touch of spice. This full-bodied wine is rich with sweet tannins and a smooth structure, offering multiple layers of blackberries and black currant with hints of licorice, vanilla, and black pepper. The finish is lengthy and shows beautiful minerality with fine tannins and lively acidity. Pairs well with a variety of grilled meats but especially with more full-flavored dishes like barbecued leg of lamb.
CATENA ZAPATA ALTA MENDOZA CABERNET
Before the world recognized Catena’s Argentina as “malbec country”, the winery was known for its old-world style Cabernet Sauvignon born in the clay-soils of Agrelo. The family cherishes its historic Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Agrelo and Tupungato, particularly for their ageability and classic flavors. Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from Lot 3 of the La Pirámide vineyard, Lot 2 of the Domingo vineyard and Lot 2 of the Nicasia Vineyard. Elevage: 18 months in French oak barrels.
Catena Alta is an assemblage of historic rows within the Catena family Estate vineyards. A very attractive bouquet with crisp blackberry, sous-bois and graphite aromas that are very controlled. The palate is medium-bodied with taut tannins and again, crisp acidity. Firm tannins and a long finish.

Red ruby color with violet highlights. The nose is complex and elegant. It shows notes of tobacco and white pepper followed by some notes of ripe yellow fruits such as apricot, peach, black fig and quince jam. On the palate, the first impression is driven by mentholated hints. A very balanced character between acidity and the dense silkiness of the tannins impacts on the elegant finish of this Grand Cru.

Bright ruby colour. The nose is inensely aromatic with ripe cherries, plums and anise. The palate is rich, ripe, and plush with no hard edges. The tannins are in balance with the dense core of ripe and creamy fruit. There is a hint of black pepper on the finish that adds a delicious spiciness to the wine.

An expressive wine with aromas of red cherry, plum, dry spice and earthy mushroom notes. The vibrant fruit driven palate shows concentrated red fruit with savoury flavours and well rounded yet firm tannins with great length. The palate will develop greater richness and complexity with time in the bottle.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2008 Amon-Ra opens with profound aromas of black berry compote, baking spices, smoked bacon with a whiff of anise and some fertile loam. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated with very full and rich warm berry flavors lifted by very lively acid. The tannins are medium to firm and velvety on the long finish.

The Holy Trinity is a rich, deep magenta. There are vibrant fruit aromas of cherries, blackcurrant and raspberries, with underlying notes of sweet spices, liquorice and delicate florals adding complexity. The palate is silky-smooth, with fine tannins and acidity complementing the flavour of sweet dark fruit and spice, giving the wine abundant length and concentration of flavour. This wine reflects the refinement which can be achieved with this blend of varieties. The intensity, texture and structure suggest that it will continue to develop more complexity for the next 10 years. The Holy Trinity Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre is well suited to game meats such as roast duck with Chinese greens and slow-cooked venison.
GUIDALBERTO BY SASSICAIA
Tenuta San Guido release their second wine Guidalberto a year before Sassicaia. The name Guidalberto, introduced in 2000, was inspired by the current proprietor’s great great great grandfather Guidalberto della Gheradesca. The wine was created for two reasons; the Estates desire to accomplish something with Merlot (a grape that they do not use in Sassicaia) and to create a wine which could be enjoyed younger than their ‘veteran Sassicaia’.
Guidalberto is aged for 15 months in French oak barriques, with a small element of American oak and then three months in bottle before being released onto the market. Guidalberto’s blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Sassicaia’s is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc but aged longer for 24 months in French barrique and six months in bottle.
“A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2017 Guidalberto appeals to the more informal side of sophisticated drinking. By that I mean it makes a great choice at lunch or for family dinners. Despite the accessibility and dense concentration of the fruit, especially evident in a warm vintage such as this, the wine’s pedigree is evident in terms of the careful management of the structure and acidity. My samples were a little closed at first and needed some extra coaxing. MARCHESI ANTINORI "TIGNANELLO"
Intensely ruby red in color with purple highlights, the 2013 Tignanello shows an intense nose of ripe red fruit in addition to notes of vanilla, chocolate, and leather imparted from the oak. Spicy and balsamic sensations give additional complexity in the layers of aromatics. The wine is ample and enveloping on the palate with supple tannins and a savory freshness that fully respects the character and personality of the Sangiovese grape. The nose is dominated by intense notes of ripe red berry fruit and complementary aromas of sweet spices and coffee. Ample and balanced on the palate, the wine shows silky tannins along with a sweet and spicy finish and aftertaste.
MICHELE CHIARLO BAROLO CANNUBI
Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 by the sole and present owners, Michele and Giuseppina Chiarlo. Son of over seven generations of esteemed wine growers, Mr. Chiarlo is today one of the most respected producers of the fine wines of Piedmont and a leading figure in its viticultural industry. Cannubi is a paradigm of Barolo with features from the Helvation and Tortonian soil, notes of liquorice and sweet tobacco accompanying full round tannins. It reaches complete maturity after 6/7 years with its complexity and aristocracy.
MITOLO JESTER CABERNET
Bright and fresh with signature Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics of red capsicum, menthol, violet and mixed herbs. Full bodied and mouth filling with juicy red cherry, blackcurrant and cassis, intertwined with savoury dark chocolate and tobacco. The Amarone component adds to a textured finish with great length and savoury tannins.
MITOLO JESTER SHIRAZ
Pure and unobstructed by new oak, the nose is lifted with dark fruit flavours of blackberry, choc-mint, and anise. The palate is concentrated with a luscious rolling texture and packed with fresh blackberry, dark chocolate and liquorice flavours. Silky tannins that linger, providing a drying, savoury finish.
Pairs well with grilled red meat and mature cheese.
MONTES PURPLE ANGEL
The grapes for Purple Angel come from Montes’ own vineyards in Apalta and Marchigüe, arguably two of the finest sites in the Colchagua Valley. In Apalta, vines are planted on 45° slopes, providing good exposure to achieve ripeness. Cool ocean breezes and low nighttime temperatures moderate this warm area, permitting slow development and retention of varietal aromas and acidity. Marchigüe is slightly cooler because of its closer proximity to the ocean. Conditions are dry, reducing the threat of fungal disease and resulting in consistently healthy harvests. All grapes were hand harvested.
Purple Angel displays the rich flavours typical of Carménère. The addition of Petit Verdot gives spice, colour, structure and acidity. Deep ruby red in colour, the wine has alluring red and blackberry notes on the nose. The palate is densely concentrated, with spice and mocha lingering on the finish.
A wine with medium-high depth of color — black-cherry red with garnet hues. First, red-fruit notes appear on the nose, with hints of fennel and scrubby heathland, all nicely balanced by smokey aromas from the time spent in medium-toasted wood. Underlying hints of vanilla come through with coffee notes. On the palate, there is a full mouth-feel with slightly mentholated nuances and white chocolate. The vanilla reappears and the red-berry fruit aromas found on the nose persist, with an elegant acidity which makes the aftertaste long. This wine can be paired with veal, Iberian pork charcuterie and some types of casseroles (stew).
This wine is ruby-red with glints of brick-red and a medium-high depth of colour. Dense legs which provide you with a sequence of patterns around the sides of the glass. Initially you can find notes of red fruit aromas such as blackberries and reminders of spices. This is all well balanced by smoked aromas from its time in wood which had received a light-to-medium toasting. A subtle vanilla pod aroma coming through with roast coffee nuances. A smooth, mellow attack, with tannins wrapping the sides of the mouth with hints of menthol. In the finish the interesting lingering persistence is worthy of note. Food pairing: You can pair this wine with veal, Iberian ham and charcuterie and some kinds of stews and hotpots.
The 2013 Opus One offers splendid aromas of blueberry, cassis, and blackberries with highlights of rose, anise and baking spices. A creamy entry gives way to layers of complexity which unfold in the mid-palate with velvety tannins enrobing a center of concentrated black-fruit with juicy freshness. Elegantly balanced, the acidity and core structure deliver a persistent finish with hints of dark chocolate. The 2013 Opus One promises enjoyment for decades to come.
“What appeared to be a disadvantage for the 2013 vintage – late budding and flowering – proved to be a major advantage thanks to a warm summer and month of September offering textbook conditions for harvesting, with cool temperatures but a prevalence of sunny weather. This resulted in slow but complete ripening with great balance and a delightful aromatic quality, which we like to define as “Elegance”. Ornellaia 2013, with its dense, vibrant colour, has a nose of splendid aromatic complexity built around a limpid and brilliant fruitiness, underscored by refined spicy and balsamic notes. The mouth develops vibrant and complex fruity nuances framed by a dense, slender structure with tannins that attain a rare harmony between firmness and fleshiness, concluding with a long balanced and fresh finish.”

It has a great structure and a good tannic presence in the mouth and is persistent, fresh and very pleasant to the palate. Floral hints in retronasal.

The winery of the Sallier de la Tour family in Monreale near Palermo is still family-owned. The vineyards and winery are managed by the Tasca family, who are experienced in viticulture, which has led to an international renown of the winery and its elegant wines.
For this Nero d’Avola, the grapes are grown in the vineyards of Monreale, the yields are low, which gives the wine high quality and concentration. The grapes are traditionally pressed in red, at a controlled temperature and on the skins, the malolactic fermentation is completed. Afterwards, 30% of the wine is aged for 12 months in small French oak barrels from Alliers and Troncais in second and third use, the other 70% mature in stainless steel tanks. After bottling, the wine rests in the bottle for a few weeks to harmonize.

SILVER OAK NAPA VALLEY
The 2013 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is garnet in color with a ruby red rim, it has an alluring nose of blackberry bramble, baking spices, and black olive. Aromas of vanilla, cassis, and sage fill the glass, revealing the influence of American oak barrel aging. On the palate, notes of raspberry are complemented with lingering acidity and a finish of dusty, silky tannins. Given proper cellaring, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2036.
An intense ruby red in color with purple highlights, the nose of the wine is dominated by varietal notes of excellent freshness and an elegant intensity. The 2012 Solaia has a classic style and is characterized on the palate by the pleasurable harmony of flavors created by a fine balance between acidity and tannins and high level fruit which lasts from the initial impact through to the lengthy finish and aftertaste.
